Wildlife Country

Moremi & Khwai

Floodplains, woodland and water come together here. Moremi and Khwai are known for varied habitats and wildlife viewing.

THE AREA

WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE DIFFERENT.

Moremi Game Reserve protects part of the eastern Okavango Delta and includes a mix of floodplain, woodland and water. The Khwai area lies along its northern edge, where these habitats create a natural corridor for wildlife.

Game drives and wildlife viewing are central to the experience here. Camp location matters because activities and the overall safari style can change between the reserve, community areas and private safari areas.

EXPERIENCES

WHAT YOUR TIME HERE CAN LOOK LIKE.

Every camp is different, and not every activity is available everywhere or all year. These are some of the experiences that help give this part of Botswana its character.

01

Wildlife Viewing

Game drives are central here, with varied habitats supporting a wide range of species and good opportunities for predator sightings.

02

Floodplains and Woodland

The landscape changes quickly between open floodplain, mopane woodland and riverine areas, which keeps drives visually varied and gives wildlife different places to move through.

03

Flexible Camp Choices

The right camp depends on whether you want reserve based safari, a more private safari setting, water activities, night drives where permitted, or a combination across different areas.

WHEN TO TRAVEL

A strong area across different seasons.

The dry months are popular as wildlife concentrates around permanent water and visibility improves. The green season brings fuller vegetation, dramatic skies, birding and new life. Road and water conditions vary between areas, and change through the year.

WHO THIS AREA SUITS
Wildlife focused travellers, first time safari guests, photographers and people who want to combine different habitats in one journey.

Moremi Game Reserve was established through local conservation action led by the Batawana people and remains the officially protected reserve within the Okavango Delta.
